|First thing’s first, there’s mold everywhere. It’s a part of the natural environment and can help with the breakdown of fallen leaves or dead trees. But inside the home, mold can cause problems.
For mold to grow it needs three things: moisture, heat, and something to feed on (i.e. fabric, wood, and paper). Bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms can be prime areas for mold growth because they have all three of these.
To help prevent mold growth in your home, here are a few tips.
- Keep humidity between 40% and 60% inside the home.
- Make sure areas are well ventilated using exhaust fans and making sure your laundry vent goes to the outside.
- Mold growth can be removed from hard surfaces with commercial products, soap and water, or a bleach solution of no more than 1 cup of bleach in 1 gallon of water.
- Making sure areas that get wet are dried within 24-48 hours.
